Some Answers

Welcome to the Answers page. Below, we have tried to answer the most common questions visitors to our Web site may have. If you find that your question is not answered on this page, please contact us using the information below.

Can I be hypnotised?

Most people can be hypnotised, if they want to be and are feeling reasonably relaxed. It has nothing to do with ‘strength of mind’; it’s not possible to hypnotise somebody against their will. In fact, it’s possible that the stronger-minded you are the more capable you are of achieving your aims, just as would be the case without hypnosis.

How does it feel to be hypnotised?

The short answer is “remarkably normal”; most people feel very relaxed and find the process of being hypnotised leaves them with a feeling of well-being. You’re not unconscious or asleep. You hear every word the hypnotist says to you and can open your eyes and come out of hypnosis any time you want. The feeling is often likened to the relaxed state experienced just before falling asleep or just after wakening.

Will hypnosis work for me?

For most people, for most problems, hypnosis can work. It doesn’t turn you into a robot: you’re still in control, it’s just much easier to do what you have decided is right for you. If you are interested in the possibility of using hypnosis to help you with something not mentioned on this site, feel free to contact us using the contact information at the bottom of this page; I’m always interested in a new challenge!

How does it work?

When we attempt to change our behaviour using only our conscious mind, we often find it a struggle. This can be because we are working against our subconscious, which already had its own well-established, but conflicting, behaviour in place. Hypnosis works by encouraging your subconscious mind to cooperate with your conscious mind to make the change you consciously desire.

How do I choose a hypnotherapist?

The best way to choose a hypnotist is probably by a recommendation from somebody you trust. Failing that, choose a hypnotherapist who is registered with a reputable registration body. Speak to him or her and ask yourself “Do I trust this person to treat me?”.

I am registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register (www.general-hypnotherapy-register.com), which requires an approved hypnotherapy qualification and also defines a code of conduct for all registered professionals. The register also provides a complaints procedure for clients who are unsatisfied with the service they have received from a registered member.
